Age at the cutoff date: check the right age for a job
Use your date of birth and the notification’s cutoff date to check age, then keep relaxation and education conditions separate.
Your birthday today is not always the age that matters for a recruitment application. A notice may calculate age on a particular date, even when its application window falls in a different month. Start with that date. A quick check can help you shortlist a job, but it cannot replace the complete official conditions.
Collect four pieces of information
Open the official notification for the exact advertisement and post. Record your date of birth, the age cutoff date, the minimum age and the upper age limit. If the notice gives a permitted birth-date range, record both boundary dates as well. Keep the page number beside each entry so you can return to the source without searching the whole document again.
Check the required proof of birth date. For example, SSC notices specify the accepted certificate and may print eligible birth-date ranges. Do not assume that the date on a different identity document automatically overrides the recruitment requirement. If your records differ, ask the recruiting authority what correction or evidence is accepted before submitting contradictory information.
Calculate completed years, not rounded years
Use a calendar calculation from the birth date to the cutoff. Subtract the birth year from the cutoff year, then subtract one if that year’s birthday has not arrived by the cutoff. Keep months and days for explanation; do not round someone who is almost 18 up to 18.
Illustration only: a person born on 4 March 2001 is 25 years, 4 months and 28 days old on 1 August 2026. These are example dates, not the conditions of a live recruitment. Whether that person meets a particular upper-age rule depends on the exact notice wording and any stated birth-date boundaries. Leap-day birthdays and unusual boundary wording deserve a direct check against the authority’s instructions.
Keep relaxation as a separate check
First calculate age without relaxation. Then locate the row that applies to the particular post and candidate. A category label alone is not enough: the notice can require a prescribed certificate, qualifying service, a relevant status on a specified date, or other evidence. Some provisions apply only to certain posts.
Do not add several concessions together simply because several descriptions fit. Use only a combination expressly allowed in the notification. If the condition has not been extracted or the certificate is not available, label the result as needing information. That is more useful than displaying a green result based on an assumption.
Age is one condition in a larger decision
A person can satisfy age and still need a particular subject, recognised qualification, professional registration, experience or domicile. Keep those checks on their own lines. A graduation qualification should not hide a required Class 12 subject combination. A course being studied is also different from a course completed by the authority’s required date.
Write the outcome as “matches the checked age condition” rather than “eligible for the job”. If the notice includes alternative education routes, compare the applicant with a complete route. Do not combine half of one route with half of another to create an eligibility route the authority never stated.
Save a small evidence record
For each shortlist entry, keep the advertisement number, official link, cutoff date, calculation, applicable relaxation reference and unresolved questions. If a correction or extension appears, check whether it changes only the application deadline or also changes eligibility dates. A later submission deadline does not, by itself, prove that the age cutoff has moved.
On DailyExamAlert, begin with the free DOB-and-education check. Open the full explanation for an opportunity and review missing conditions before applying. Save an official confirmation or response when a boundary is unclear. The recruiting authority decides admission to its process; an automated match is a way to organise the checks.
